Sandra Young Glass Sculpture- Classes 2025
I am excited to be offering classes; 1 day or a taster half day. The classes are suitable for beginners or for those with some experience of lamp working with borosilicate.
A full day course or half day course can be 1 to 1 or for up to 3 people. Groups of 2 or 3 people will share the torch time and observe their colleague/s working. Every student will make something that I will anneal in the kiln and send on to you after your visit.
For those new to lampwork we will make something simple, like leaves, initially without colour – lustres of your choice of colours can be applied when they go in the kiln- and should you wish, and time allows- coloured glass can then be introduced. A simple ‘branch’ will be the next step to hang your leaves from to make them into a mobile or chime.
I demonstrate each step at least once and am on hand constantly to help you create your leaves.
If you have some experience or would like to make something else, we can discuss the possibilities beforehand.
I like to keep the classes as a relaxed environment and aim for you to have as enjoyable experience as possible with me, so do let me know if you have any special requests.
I am offering classes over a period of 2 weeks in June 2025.
If you are happy to share your class with up to two other people or book as a group of 2 or 3 the cost will be:
Full day: 10 am – 4.30 pm, £ 190 per person.
Half day: Morning 9.30 am – 12.30 pm, Afternoon 1.30 – 4.30 pm, £ 90 per person.

Full day: 10 am – 4.30 pm, £ 380.
Half day: Morning 9.30 – 12.30 pm, Afternoon 1.30 until 4.30 pm £ 180.
After some very enjoyable classes in January/February I am adding some more dates in June by popular request.

If you would like to request a date, I ask that you tell me your 1st, 2nd and 3rd preference of date and state how many people you are booking for and whether you would like a full day or half day (indicating morning or afternoon); 1 to 1 class or wish to share with others.
I will also need to know if you have any experience to pair you with similar ability students if you wish to share.
I have a large list of people who have expressed an interest in classes so will only be able to offer classes on a first come first serve basis.
On confirmation of your booking date, I ask for a deposit of 50% per person to hold your place with the remaining 50% due 4 weeks prior to your class.
Your Class Outline
I start by running through the safety aspects.
A demonstration of how to use the torch will follow and then each student will get an opportunity to make something fairly straightforward such as leaves.
We can then can add coloured glass and I will show you different ways of introducing colour.
Time allowing we can move on to melting rods together and pulling out simple branches which can be then used to hang your leaves from to create a leaf chime.

I have had customers expressing an interest in coming to see me work in my workshop. This is something I would also consider if there is enough interest in coming and see me demonstrate and answer questions. I will let you know of further open studio days through the year.
